Missouri State University's Opera Theatre is a team of students pursuing their love of entertainment through opera. They frequently collaborate with the school's Department of Theatre and the Springfield Regional Opera.
For two of the team's productions in the fall of 2022, I was hired to make a series of illustrations to help advertise them. One was to illustrate their winter production of an abridged version of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. The other was for Little Red's Most Unusual Day-- a mini tour across local schools to entertain and teach elementary students theatre etiquette and vocal ranges.
New to the theatre scene, I took on this task and enjoyed the works created by such a talented group of people. I have gained experience in project management as a one-person team, self-started these tasks, and delivered pieces such as posters, booklets, stickers, social media templates, and banners.

Based on the 1893 production by Humperdinck, I took inspiration from minimalist theatre posters and combined it with my newfound love of collage work. I wanted to capture the cute, but grim story with centering the works on candy and the witch's home. All elements were either sculpted, photographed, and designed by me.
Results for this project was:
- Booklet for day of show
- Poster promoted on their Facebook page
- Facebook banner, also posted on KSMU (Springfield, MO's NPR station)
- Sticker
- Instagram template

Created by J. Offenbach and G. Rossini, a retelling of the famous story of little red riding hood. This story was presented by the Opera Theatre team and toured across elementary schools in Springfield, Missouri. The production was used to teach students on theatre etiquette and vocal ranges. Goal was to be bright, colorful, and educational. I look lots of inspiration from illustrations of the classic story while making connections to the original play and the theatre's actors.
Results from this project was:
- Front cover for the teacher's lesson plans
- Mini illustrations to go inside the lesson plans
- Instagram template
